It uses GSM(2G) and GPS to achieve location positioning, and then transfer location datas through the GSM to the Lightfoot servers!
How does Lightfoot transmit data?
“If there is poor signal Lightfoot will store any driving data and report back to our servers as soon as it regains a mobile network connection.”(from https://support.lightfoot.co.uk/article/49-if-there-is-poor-coverage-will-lightfoot-still-work)——This means that Lightfoot can send signals to the server via the mobile phone network(Generally use 2G or 3G network)!
